Burmese Jade Pendant - Cicada
A fine jadeite pendant is carved as a cicada. Ancient Chinese regarded cicada as the symbol of immortality. The cicada is vividly carved in details with folded wings, protrusive eyes and other body lines. Because of its life history, cicada is regarded as a symbol of resurrection. The lava works its way into the earth, and, after a long subterranean existence of many years, emerges to the surface in the pupa stage from which the cicada is transformed.
