Burmese  Jade Pendant - The Ghost Master Deity Zhong Kui (
鍾馗)

A  very rare black and green jadeite depicts a well profiled Chinese deity Zhong Kui  with a demon who he subjugated. His feet trod on a demon; his right hand held  a sword .  The reverse carved with a lingzhi Ruyi which is a blessing of 'as you wish'.  Zhong Kui, a widely known name in Chinese legend, is a god in charge of subduing evil spirits.  He was so well known in ancient China that people had always hung the alleged portrait of Zhong Kui on their doors for expelling evil spirits and warding off demons. Some people even adopted Zhong Kiu as their names hoping the name would yield protective power. Only in recent centuries was the custom changed to hanging the portrait on wall of the hall on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Even nowadays, many people still wear or carry a Zhong Kiu as a guard against demons and evil spirits.

Burmese Jade Pendant - Qilun


A very fine rectangular jadeite plaque of  icy category  well carved, dug and pierced as a 'Qilun' within a flat upturn border; the reverse, carved and pierced with taoist symbols. 'Qilun' is an  creature with the head of a dragon, body of a deer, tail of an ox and hoof of a horse and is immortal.  Legend says mother of Confusious once came across a ''Qilun'. Later she got pregnant and had Confucious who  became a  great master and  was anointed  Teacher of the Nation. it is now believed that the auspicious creature will bring you peace of mind, longevity and prosperous next generation with fame

Nephrite Jade Pendant - Legend of  'Heng-E' (Goddess of The Moon)
嫦娥奔月

 An open work carving of white nephrite depicting the mythological figure  'Heng-E'  flying amidst clouds.  Legend has it that  in ancient there was at a time the sky had 10 suns. The earth was dry and hot and people could not live. there came a men named Houyi who shot down 9 suns with his gold bow and white arrows leaving one sun to bright and warm the universe. He soon became a hero and married Heng-E, a woman of extraordinary beauty. Houyi's bravery was known to the Western Empress 'Wangmuniangniang'  who awarded him with a packet of herb 'panacea' which would make him an immortal and ascending to heaven by eating.  Houyi was reluctant to leave his wife to become an immortal and gave her the panacea for safe keeping.  The panacea was known to Demon Peng Meng. When Houyi went to hunting, the demon forced Heng-E  to surrender the panacea.  Heng-E knowing that she was not the demon's match in fighting, swallowed the herb. Immediately, Heng-E found herself flying in sky , straight to a place where now we know it the moon.  The couple never lived together again. The Emperor in Heaven had pity on him and made the sky particular clear and the moon particularly bright on lunar August 15 so that Houyi could see her wife in the moon.  Experiencing the sorrow of living alone without her lover, Heng-E descended now and then from the moon the earth  to match lovers and bless their love eternal. Heng-E is now known as the Goddess of The Moon

Burmese Jade Pendant - Legend of The Leaping Carp 
鯉躍龍門,聲價十倍

 An ovoid jadeite carved at front in high relief with two carps making effort to leap over the an attic on the wavy sea; mythology has it that the Emperor in Heaven needed several dragons to guard  heaven and ordered an attic be built high to the sky over the sea for the carps to leap over. Those carps succeeded in leaping over would be turned into an immortal dragon.  The sculpture symbolizes a blessing of great success in ones career.

Frosted Ink Green Jade Pendant - Monk Jiong

A rare frosted  black jadeite boldly carved and cut to Monk Jiong at front and a dragon at back with fine details; Jiong (1130 -1209), a household name in China, was born in Yongning Village Tiantai County Zhejiang Province in the Southern Song Dynasty. Despite the highly disciplined life expected to a monk, he lived an unconventional and uninhibited life without fixed residence or regular meals. As such, he was known as the 'Insane Jiong' at that time.  But he was arrogant and estranged, upright and honest. He was said to have magic power to cure illness and deliver wealth to the poor. A rare late Qing dynasty cylindrical mutton fat nephrite simply carved as a cicadas on both sides. Ancient Chinese regarded cicada  as the symbol of immortality. Because of its life history, cicada is regarded as a symbol of resurrection. The lava works its way into the earth, and, after a long subterranean existence of many years, emerges to the surface in the pupa stage from which the cicada is transformed. The exuviae of the cicada also symbolizes the re-birth of the mortals. It is said cicada brings longevity to its owner. Two-sides carving cicada can rarely be found
